Bob (z'l) and Cynthia Sussman have practiced tzedakah as a way of life. Their children explain that they have done so for as long as they can remember. \u201cWe remember that for years, the halls of our house were lined with Barton Candy, sold to support the Yeshiva Academy and ready for pick-up by all in our community.\u201d That is just one of the numerous fund raising activities Cynthia was involved in over the years \u2013 for the Silver Academy, Beth El Temple, and for Hadassah. \u201cI started working for Hadassah when I first got married\u201d, Cynthia recalled. \u201cA friend took me to a meeting and I\u2019ve been there ever since\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bob lent his support both to the Jewish Community, as well as to public ser-vice for the City of Harrisburg. He was a board member for Beth El, the founder of the Downtown Harrisburg Association and a board member of Harristown, and the Harrisburg Parking Authority. In addition to contributing their time and their talents, Bob and Cynthia made financial contributions to the Jewish community, as described by Cynthia, \u201cevery year, for more years than I can remember\u201d.<\/p>\n

Their commitment to others is summarized by their children who write, \u201cWe are so proud of their support to the Jewish community over the many years. They have been an inspiration to us, their children, and their grand-children, and to those whose lives they have touched.\"<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The Susquehanna Tzedakah Society (STS) was established as a giving society of the Jewish Community Foundation of Central Pennsylvania. Members of the Society have made substantial financial commitments to Jewish community agencies and congregations including planned giving, endowments and other gifts. They are sustaining the Jewish community now in central PA, globally, and in Israel, and securing its future.<\/p>\n

We thank and applaud them for their personal commitments to provide significant financial resources to support our Jewish community.<\/p>\n
