5 Oct 2015 Honoring Dr. Arnold Hillman and Dr. C.J. Foer by admin | posted in: news, TBS | 0 The Jewish Community Foundation of Central PA honors Temple Beth Shalom’s Dr. Arnold Hillman and Dr. C.J. Foer Dr. Arnold Hillman and Dr. C.J. Foer are both long time members of Temple Beth Shalom and friends for over two decades. As members of Temple Beth Shalom’s Finance committee they envisioned an endowment fund for the Temple. They believed that with the Jewish community’s changing demographics having financial resources at some future date will help to keep both Judaism and our community alive. Arnold and C.J. sought the help of many people including Mark Widoff who helped form the legal foundation of the TBI’s endowment. Through the Jewish Endowment Fund, then Executive Director, Yankie Tevnor, suggested that donated funds should be held under the larger umbrella of the Harrisburg Jewish Community. The fund has continued to grow and is now worth approximately $50,000. It is hoped that the growth of these dollars will help support the Jewish community long into the future. Additionally, it is hoped that it will continue to inspire others to further the mission of endowing for the future. Dr. Arnold Hillman has spent the largest portion of his life involved with education. He has been a teacher, principal, superintendent of school, advocate for rural education, lobbyist as well as creating and running, along with his wife Carol, a foundation which aided needy rural high school students to achieve a college education. Dr. C.J. Foer is a dentist on the West Shore. He is married to Lisa Foer. He and Lisa have three grown children. CJ has been a long-time volunteer and teacher at the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore, as well as a former President of Temple Beth Shalom. It’s obvious that there is great energy and a great tag team between Dr. C.J. Foer and Dr. Arnold Hillman, who had the foresight 15 years ago to start their endowment to support the sustainability of Temple Beth Shalom. It’s also impressive that none of that money has been used to date. Sam Levine (left) presenting the Foundation’s award to Dr. C.J.
